Launched in the fall of 2023, the Arc2Independence app brings virtual lessons directly to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to help them navigate daily routines and challenges. Developed by the Tech for Independent Living team at The Arc of Northern Virginia, this app was designed for those living in Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC to promote full inclusion and participation in the community.

The app provides access to a wide range of lessons on safety, transportation, daily living skills, and employment — all available on a phone, tablet, or computer. Lessons can be tailored with photos, videos, and audio for a personalized experience.

Safety first! During this event, Ashley Africa from The Arc of Northern Virginia will provide a demonstration of the app with a focus on the safety-related lessons. The safety  lessons help prepare users for emergencies at home, work, and in community settings. Topics include making safe choices, online safety, communicating with law enforcement, and more.

This event is open to residents of Main Street Apartments, members of Main Street Connect, and those who support Main Street residents and members.

Please note that it is not possible to download the app until having an intake meeting with Tech for Independent Living staff. The staff will discuss the needs of the particular user and then customize the app to make it helpful to that user.
