This event is virtual, free and open to the public!
Note: Main Street offered this event in person on October 17 and, based on requests from our community, we are repeating the event virtually on December 11.
Launched in the fall of 2023, the Arc2Indpendence app brings virtual lessons directly to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to help them navigate daily routines and challenges. Developed by the Tech for Independent Living team at The Arc of Northern Virginia, this app was designed for those living in Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC to promote full inclusion and participation in the community.
The app provides access to a wide range of lessons on safety, transportation, daily living skills, and employment — all available on a phone, tablet, or computer. Lessons can be tailored with photos, videos, and audio for a personalized experience.
Safety first! During this event, Ashley Africa from The Arc of Northern Virginia will provide a demonstration of the app with a focus on the safety-related lessons. The safety lessons help prepare users for emergencies at home, work, and in community settings. Topics include making safe choices, online safety, communicating with law enforcement, and more.
Please note that it is not possible to download the app until having an intake meeting with Tech for Independent Living staff. The staff will discuss the needs and goals of the particular user and then customize the app for that user.
