In the summer of 2020 as its building was about to open, Main Street offered a Residential Onboarding Program for incoming residents and their families to help them prepare for the move to Main Street. The program was facilitated by Dr. Robin Allen and the Main Street staff.

Session Details:

Session 1 – Moving Out: Hopes, Fears, Challenges

Session 2 – Conquering Fears, Challenges, Finding Hope

Session 3 – Welcome to Your New Home! How Things Look and Feel

Session 4 – Problem Solving, Communication, Expected Roommate and Neighbor Behaviors

Session 5 – Safety at Main Street

Session 6 – Let’s Eat and Get to Know Rockville

Sessions 2 and 4 were for adults with disabilities only. All other sessions included adults with disabilities and their family members.

The program provided practical knowledge and tools for residents to use, as well as an opportunity to process the many emotions related to the move, setting the stage for a successful transition.
