Bio: Denise is a mixed media artist who leads journeys in healing through art, creates altered book art, and works with fabric, paper, words, found bits of nature and other materials to create unique pieces that tell a story. She is also a mother, wife and breast cancer survivor. Additionally, Denise is an all around wonderful person and storyteller. We are confident that the community will enjoy Denise and her work and learn about themselves in the process.
Exhibit Dates: Friday, November 10, 2023 (Opening) – January 27, 2024
Work: In her “Pockets of Hope” exhibit, Denise uses a 2-dimensional multi-media collage approach to share her optimistic perspective of hope in everyday moments. Using reimagined clothing and other pocket-like vessels, and a variety of mediums (including fabric, paper, paint, natural and found elements, words and poetry) each piece holds hand stitched and collaged expressions of hope as a reminder to herself and all of us that there are pockets of goodness if we simply take the time to pause and appreciate them. Each submitted work will be framed, but not covered with glass, as the ”pockets” are meant to be touched, opened and explored. With themes like “Grief and gratitude live side by side”, “Look for the lighthouse”, “Woven together” and “’Between us”, each piece is meant to share a message of hope and a symbol of love.

Playing off of the theme “Look for the Lighthouse”, Denise will guide participants in creating a hand-knotted mixed-media symbol of their own to use as their “lighthouse” of hope. Using ribbon, yarn, string, beads, feathers and the like, participants will choose their own colorful items to tie around a small tree branch that can be hung in their homes or given as gifts of hope to others. Or, she can mount all of the finished creations to be hung in a public space in Main Street. All supplies are provided.
